NAGA

The Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action formed in 2002 as a network that shares information, coordinates emission reduction activities and cooperates on the research and development of innovative projects. NAGA's goal is to achieve significant emissions abatement by delivering effective programs and leveraging local government, community and business action. NAGA and its members have demonstrated significant emission reduction innovation at the local government and regional level.

NAGA's members
NAGA's members are the Cities of Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Manningham, Melbourne, Moreland, Whittlesea, Yarra, Nillumbik Shire Council and the Moreland Energy Foundation Limited (MEFL).

NAGA's Governance
NAGA's governance structures ensure sound and effective decision-making; incorporate processes for accountability to the alliance as an entity and to individual alliance members; and maintain effective communication and information exchange within NAGA's network.
NAGA's Executive meets quarterly, with one representative (councillor or senior staff) from each member organisation.
NAGA's Steering Committee meets at least bimonthly, with representatives (officer or coordinator) from each member organisation.
In addition NAGA has a number of Working Groups to allow detailed project management and/or technical discussion and information exchange.

Towards Zero Net Emissions in the NAGA Region
Towards Zero Net Emissions for the NAGA Region (TZNE) responds to the urgent need to reduce greenhouse emissions by providing for the first time in Australia, a comprehensive and evidence-based regional direction for carbon mitigation to 2020. The final report can be downloaded by clicking the link below.

NAGA's projects
NAGA is implementing emission reduction projects, and undertaking research into emission reductions across the NAGA region. NAGA members also establish their own cutting edge projects, which can act as pilots for future regional-scale NAGA projects.
NAGA has attracted funding from grants and other sources, augmenting NAGA members' own funding and in-kind contributions, to implement climate change action projects in the NAGA region. See below for links to NAGA's projects.

Advocacy
NAGA plays an active role advocating on climate change issues of importance to local government. Advocacy activity includes preparing written submissions, and appearing at public hearings to a number of State and Federal Government inquiries. NAGA also participates in consultations and workshops organised by NAGA advocacy partners. Go to the Resources page to download recent NAGA submissions.
